Duck Hunting

Adak is one of the most unique places to waterfowl hunt in North America.  This remote island is located where the Pacific Ocean meets the Bering Sea.  This convergence brings not only brings bird rarely seen in North America but also a landscape that has sweeping variety in a very small area.  Whether hunting pacific eider and harlequin on the Bering Sea or aleutian teal and european wigeon on ancient fresh water lagoons, Adak offers an opportunity that should not be missed in a waterfowler’s lifetime.  The mountains, oceans, bays, lagoons and military history all come together to form a place that is unforgettable.

Aleutian Outfitters is offering a very limited opportunity to hunt Adak with the great equipment and people that have extensively hunted the island for the last 10 years.  The hunt this season will be limited to 6 people maximum per week for a 6 day hunt/7 day stay during the prime migration in January.  Hunt dates are January 1 to 8, 2020 and January 8 to 15, 2020.  This allows us to focus on individual desires as well as provide a unique experience that few other waterfowlers will ever experience.  Our focus is to target species that this small group of dedicated waterfowlers want to collect and provide an experience all that only this remote Alaska location has to offer.

Common species include pacific eider, harlequin, aleutian teal, american wigeon, eurasian wigeon, common goldeneye, old squaw, black scoter, surf scoter, common merganser, red-breasted mergansers, bufflehead, greater scaup, pintail and mallard.  Rarely seen in North America asian vagrants such as tufted ducks or smew are also seen on Adak, depending on weather conditions during the season.  We’ve taken some beautiful tufted ducks during past January hunting trips.  We’re hopeful to continue to take these beautiful birds during this year’s trip.  Besides the wide variety of waterfowl, there are also opportunities for upland birds such as the beautiful rock ptarmigan and snipe.

This hunt will be hosted at our lodge in Adak.  We have a 6 bedroom, 4 bath lodge that we maintain year around on the island.  We also own an impressive fleet of boats on Adak.  This fleet includes a twin engine enclosed cab Boulton Explorer to tackle the Bering Sea that we have logged many hours on while fishing and hunting on Adak and also surrounding uninhabited islands in the area.  We have multiple Zodiac style boats as well as an Apparition layout boat.  Our vehicle fleet includes Ford Excursion and Expedition SUV’s to explore the island in comfort.  Expect very comfortable accommodations at our home away from home.

We will provide all meals, lodging and transportation on the island.  We typically have several kinds of sea food, including halibut, cod, crab and octopus in addition to fresh steaks and roasts for dinner.  To start the day, we’ll have a large breakfast before heading out for the day of hunting.  Lunch typically will be on the boat or in the blind if we are hunting for the day or a warm meal at the lodge if we are done early.

Our goal is to provide the best trip possible for a very small group.  We have hunted the island for over a decade and have decided to share our personal lodge, equipment and knowledge this year to progress the opportunities for others to experience Adak.  The cost of the trip is $4,950 per person.  Adak is serviced by an Alaska Airlines 737 jet service directly from Anchorage.  Ask us about how to receive highly discounted air fare that has been a tremendous opportunity for many Adak visitors.
